Olympics 2012 Stratford Station Update
Australian developer "Westfield" has now begun work on their latest project the Stratford City development — a £4 billion project providing 1.25 million square meters of retail, leisure and entertainment facilities, offices, hotels, housing, community facilities and landscaping adjacent to the 2012 Olympic site.
Opening in Spring 2011, it will have London's first John Lewis department store east of Oxford Street, a huge flagship branch of Marks and Spencer as well as a major Waitrose supermarket.
Part of this development includes building a new entrance to the north of Stratford station linking into the existing Western and Central subway. The entrance will consist of a rather grand ticket hall at street level, complete with an London Underground and National Express ticket office. Our ticket office will consist of two sales positions, plus two self service machines.
The design for the new ticket hall is in the early stages but the architects have already produced drawings of how they expect it to appear.
The new shopping centre will be served by Stratford International station, with Eurostar connections to Paris and Brussels in around two hours and St. Pancras International in seven minutes. It will also be linked to the DLR and Tube networks.
